Warping 316L stainless steel

Postby iccdan » Wed Oct 17, 2012 6:01 pm

This question involves the 199MASMER1, and might be a good one for your engineering department. If all safety features are disabled and the burners run continuously with no water circulation, will the SS 316L in the boiler warp? Have tests covering this scenario been done? Thanks

The answer to this question is yes the stainless steel would become severly warped, discolored and full of cracks. HTP has in fact preformed these type of tests in the past for various reasons.

The water in the boiler would flash to steam and destroy the heat exchanger. I think it goes without saying that you should never run the boiler with ANY safeties disabled...
